Two Poland Fourth Graders Win 2025 TLA Essay Contest
This is the Tripp Lake Association’s 24th year sponsoring an essay contest for 4th graders at the Poland Community School. The winners are awarded a scholarship to attend a week-long session at University of Maine Bryant Pond 4-H Camp and Learning Center. The UMaine Bryant Pond 4H camp provides children with high-energy, outdoor fun, focused on the exploration of land and water helping them learn to take care of our natural world and themselves.
The children are asked to write a persuasive essay or create a persuasive presentation explaining:
Why they want to attend the camp?
What does it mean to take care of the environment? What do they do to take care of the environment?
What are you hoping to learn at camp to extend their knowledge about taking care of the environment and conservation?
This year we identified two winners who were excited to go to the camp this summer. Below are excerpts from their submissions.
“I want to go to camp is to learn about the outdoors. The reason I want to learn this is because I want to teach other kids when I grow up.”
“I want to keep the animals alive by picking up trash. Small habits like keeping the world clean can help the animals and their environment. We can all live together with a happier and healthier life.”
